Tony Hough, Freelance illustrator
I specialise in realistically rendered images of odd and fantastic things: Dreams, nightmares, delusions, scenes of myth and fable, future visions and imagined horrors. As well as books, magazines and CD album covers, I have made backdrops for bands and nightclubs and murals for community arts in my home town, concept designs for film and TV projects and exhibited original works in London, Scunthorpe, Nottingham and Birmingham. I am also now a trained Tattooist!
I was born in the 60's, in a pleasant, working-class corner of England, the middle of three children. I was the quiet one, and when I wasn't scouring the small garden and outside loo for creepy-crawlies I was immersing myself in my comics, toys and especially creative things like plasticine and lego, and my drawing books. My play world reflected equally the well-used, dusty, solid world I found myself in and the fantastically surreal world I found in comics, books, TV, the cinema and the daydreams induced by music. I loved Dr Who, Captain Scarlet, Star Trek and Ace of Wands, Land of the Giants and Lost in Space. I saw The Beast from 20000 Fathoms and fell in love with stop-motion monsters, myths and magic. I also fell in love with the concrete world of the sciences, of biology, astronomy and physics and the human world of history and psychology
This love for the intermixing of the concrete and the bizarre colours my work, still. Welcome to my site! |
